Vintage Suitcase Coffee Table

After stopping my mother from throwing out this old suitcase it's sat in my room/car boot for the last year and a half or so. I finally got round to up-cycling it this month.

What I used:

• 1 No. Old Suitcase
• 1 No. Sheet of Thin plywood (Approx 1 metre x 1 metre)
• 4 No. Coffee Table Legs (Purchased mine from Screwfix.ie)
• 16 No. Nuts & Bolts Sized to match Legs

Tools:

• Zigsaw
• Screw Driver
• Drill
• Gorilla glue or similar
• Old Soldering Iron (Optional)

Using a blade i stripped out the lining to leave a better inside material to glue the wood panels to.

My suiitcases lining was a little difficult to cut out so be careful not to damage the leather of the suitcase.

Measure out two identical sized panels to fit in either size of your suitcase. Using a jigsaw, cut the sections out. Mark the locations of the four legs on each corner of one of the panels.

When you are happy with the location of the legs, using a drill bit matching the size of the holes in the legs drill 16 corresponding holes.

I used gorilla glue and some heavy boxes to hold the panels to the inside of the suitcase for about 1 hour.

Optional: When I had the panel glued on securely I used an old hot soldering iron to burn a clean hole through the suitcase material through the 16 holes.

Using a manual or electric screwdriver screw in the legs.

Sit back and enjoy your creation.

I did clean it up with some all purpose cleaner and finish with some shoe leather wax for a deeper and glossier finish.

I did intend on filling the inside with some sort of wooden box inside to prop up the inside a bit more but for now it is propping up to a decent standard on its own.
