Vintage Inspired Dress With African Wax Fabric

Hi there!

This is a simple retro (50's) inspired dress i've made. It's pretty easy to make. I chose an african waxed cotton fabric mixed with a black lightweight tulle to make this dress. I hope you'll appreciate this tutorial! Don't forget to suscribe and vote guys ;)

What you will need:

-Fabric of your choice (4yards for a Fuller skirt otherwise you can use 2 or 3 yards )

-basic sloper for bodice (mine is from here: http://www.burdastyle.com/pattern_store/patterns/...

-Tulle (optional)

-Matching lining

-sewing machine

-matching thread

-pins

-zipper dress

-tailor chalk, scissors, papier, ruler pencils, measurement tape

-Download , print and cut your bodice pattern. Report it on a paper, back and front.

-Make the modifications on the front and back of bodice like i did on the pictures

-create your bows pattern as i showed on the pictures.

After that you can cut the patterns on your fabric.

PS: YOU NEED TO CUT IN THE FABRIC 4 BOWS TIPS. REPEAT THE SAME FOR LINING. At the end, you should have 8 bow tips.

I've omitted to write it on this paper... sorry! :(

Assembling the patterns

- pin, sew and press all your darts of the back and front of both fabric and lining

-sew only the necklines and armholes first at the fronts and backs. Make notches, Do NOT RETURN YET.

-take your bows tips 2 by 2. Sew them together ,cut the excess of fabric arround the bow, return, then press. At the end you should have 4 bow tips .

-place your bodice parts fabric toward you. Then take your bow , the tip must look down, insert it between fabric and lining and the fabric. So that the seam allowances of bodice and bow tip must be aligned, pin and sew on the seam allowance. Repeat for the other bow tips.

-return the bodice partsSo and pull the bow tips. Press the bodice.

-Sew together back and front of bodice at side seams.

- Take your skirt fabrics. You should have 3 parts: 1 big part for the front, 2 small parts for the back(1 big part equally cut in half). Stitch one half at right side of the front skirt and the other at left side of the front skirt. Sew together the 2 pieces of the back from bottom to top and stop at 4 inches from the waist. Leave the rest for the zipper.

-Make a long stitch at the waist seam allowance of the skirt. Pull on the 2 ends of the thread to start the gathers until you have the same amount of the bodice waist measurement.

-(Optinal: do the dame with the tulle skirt. When you've finished, stitch the 2 skirts together at waist seam)

- After that sew together the skirt and the bodice at waist area.

-Place and pin the zipper a the back of the dress. Sew.

-Hem the border seam of the fabric ONLY. NoT FOR THE TULLE SKIRT.

Voilà ! You have your dress!
