The problem

The OE handbrake button often breaks within the internal mechanism of the handbrake, resulting in the handbrake not working as it should. The button’s arms that slot into the internals of the mechanisms or the shoulder on the bottom of the button can often snap resulting in the button becoming lodged in place and unable to press in or out, or it can come loose and fall out entirely. This is because the OE button is made of very thin plastic and is not made to last the span of the vehicles life.

Symptoms of the fault

The handbrake button becoming stuck in place or falling out, resulting in the handbrake becoming in operable and being stuck in the upright or downward position. The main Vauxhall dealers will say you will need the whole handbrake unit replacing as the button is not a spare part. This will cost hundreds with labour as the centre console must be removed in order to do so.

Please note there is no OE part number for the button as this part is not available separately from Vauxhall.

Will fit all Mokkas within this age range regardless of interior colour or trim. It will also fit left hand drive & right hand drive vehicles. If unsure if this design will fit please email us a photograph of your handbrake to sales@x8r.co.uk

Our solution

Our improved button is of the exact same design as the OE button, however it is made of metal meaning it will not break inside the mechanism. This solution will last the lifetime of the vehicle and is also cost-effective against the cost of fixing the unit at the main dealer. This can be fitted while the handbrake is still on the vehicle, meaning there is no stripping of interior components making the job very easy to carry out.

You will receive

1 x Metal handbrake button

1 x Replacement spring

Removing the Old Button

Remove the old button (if it hasn’t fallen out) by using a flat-head screw driver or pick. Gently push it down the side of the button and lever it out of place.

Removing the Old Spring

Remove the old spring, again this can be done using the same tool. The spring sits inbetween the white plastic lever and the internals of the handbrake. This should come out very easily.

Preparing for the New Button

Clean out any dirt or residue with a tissue or wipe. Ensure all remnants of the old button are removed. Then apply a small amount of lithium grease to the end of the new spring.

Fitting the New Spring

Fit the new spring by pulling back the white plastic lever and slotting the spring over the round base. Push the lever back into place and hook the spring within the internals of the handbrake.

At a 45-degree angle, fit the new button. Making sure the back shoulder of the button is fitted underneath the plastic housing on the handbrake. Slot the arms into the two holes either side of the spring and firmly press in. You can then test the function of the button.
