Aesthetic Lanthern # Valentine's Mood
When i see some celebrations for valentine's day happening around, i got an idea to make in its theme. So with this instructable i would be covering how i build a simple aesthetic lanthern.
Let's get started!
Supplies
Electric bulb - any unused/fu
Precaution
As we handle electric bulb, we will give first priority to safety. So here are the safety tools MUST while doing it.
Gloves
Safety eye glasses
Better lighted room
Disclaimer: Instructions given below are those followed by me. This project involve breaking glass that can cause glass particles to jump around and work with sharp glass!Never attempt to open or break a Mercury-Filled light bulb like a CFL (Compact Fluorescent Light) As mercury is highly toxic and is not something you want to mess with.
I am NOT responsible for any accidents or damage caused by this project, at your end!

Cleaning Copper Wire(optional)
As i bought the copper wire sometime ago and it got more exposed to recent rain entering living room developing oxides. So i had to clean up the wire to start with.
1. To a bowl, add lemon juice + vinegar
2. After mixing it, i added baking soda. It creates bubbles and subsides after a while.
3. Now the substance is taken with old cloth and used it to rub on to the wires.
4. You would see that the cloth gets the the dirt/oxides out of the wire.
5. I continued the step3 for 2-3 times to get better cleaned wire.
Let's Understand the Light Bulb, Its Inside
Opening Light Bulb : Gather Supplies
Opening Light Bulb : Remove the Bottom Terminal Contact
To remove the bottom terminal contact, take your flat screw driver and gently lift one side of it. Then take your pair of nose pliers and lift it off. If it doesn't want to come, twist it and it should come instantly.
Opening Light Bulb : Remove the Base Glass Insulator
To remove the glass insulator, take again your flat head screw driver and stick it in the small opening in the center but not deeper than 1/4 inch deep and with your safety gloves and goggles, hold the light bulb so the base faces downwards or away from you and start prying around until it breaks in a few pieces that can be pried off one by one easily.
Opening Light Bulb : Break the Pressure Discharge Tube
To break the pressure discharge tube, take your pair of nose pliers and facing the base away from you, give it some pressure to the left or right and it will break or crush under the pliers pressure.
This step is quite scary at first because all you can think of is that the light bulb will break into a million pieces but because it's round, It's way more solid than it looks. Have no fear and do it! The rest of the pressure discharge tube can now be removed using your small square screw driver and push it to one side until it breaks completely leaving the Stem press and Stem intact.
Opening Light Bulb : Break the Stem
To break the Stem press, Take your small square screw driver and place it in the Stem and while giving a VERY gentle pressure, twist left and right a few times and it'll break leaving a piece or the whole Stem.
Opening Light Bulb : Break the Glass Ring (rest of the Stem)
To break the glass ring, first of all using your pair of needle nose pliers, detach the wire lead that is attached to the metal base and that is holding the broken Stem press.
Now take your pair of nose pliers and stick it in the base and turn it all around moving it back and forth to break the glass ring completely. Once you've done this, using your pair of needle nose pliers you can stick it not more than 3/4 Inch deep and while holding it open with gentle pressure, twist it a few turns to remove any sharp edges.

Modelling the Copper Wire, to the Design
Maximum i used my hands to make bends and twists into the wire. And the wire was also able to easy to work on with hands.
My intention is to create a heart shape to hang the light bulb at left and a small twist at the right side. And one side of the wire to be inserted into the other side as a lock.
Wooden Base, to the Wire Design
Now, i wanted to attach three wooden blocks to balance the weight of the model and the three wooden blocks would be glued together.
So the longer one comes at the center and the smaller ones on both sides of it.
Adhesive to Fix Wire to the Wooden Base
I carved out small piece of wood from the center wood piece and applied epoxy compound to attach the wire to the wooden base. Along with that to add additional strength, i applied polyurethane adhesive for additional bonding.

Adding Varnish to the Wooden Base, for Glossy Look
Adding Metal Part to the Cap(of the Bulb)
A soda bottle cap serves the purpose of cap to the bulb.
A small strip(metal) of soda can is inserted into the cap.
