Valentine Rice Krispie Treats
I decided the other day that I need to use up my Rice Krispies and make Rice Krispie treats. I figured I might as well make an Instructable about it. They've already been posted before so I decided to make them specially for Valentine's Day. The obvious solution was to make them hearts, but that just wasn't enough. But what goes with Rice Krispie treats? Well marshmallows of course! So this treat was born!
Supplies
What you need is pretty basic. I also used these heart cookie cutters, but if you want to free shape them, that is fine too.
Ingredients:
Ingredients:
- Rice Krispie Bars Rice Krispies + Marshmallows
- Marshmallow Fondant I doubled this, but I don't think you would need to
- Red Food Coloring or Red Gel Coloring (I used both)
- Heart Cookie Cutters (I got mine pretty cheap at Michaels and I used the three smallest ones - don't forget to use a coupon!)
- Corn Syrup
- Sprinkles
Make Them
Make your rice krispie treats! Once you are ready you will probably want to transfer the mixture to plastic bowl. I left the mixture in the metal pot I made it in and it stuck horribly and was hard to get out as I got down to the end of it.
Make sure you have clean hands! You can use gloves if you would like. Mine were loose fitting and the rice krispies stuck to them a lot. I used nonstick spray on my fingertips which helped a bit with the sticking.
Put down a pan with a piece of wax paper on it. Take your cookie cutters and put them on the sheet. Using your hands, shove the rice krispie mixture into the cookie cutter. You can spray the cutter with nonstick spray if you think it will stick; my plastic ones didn't stick at all. Once you have the mixture from edge to edge in the cutter you can just carefully push it out. Do this over and over again.

I was able to make:
- 20 Big Hearts
- 7 Medium Hearts
- 2 Small Hearts
Cover Them
First you will want to put down the base layer - if you want it all one color. (Later I tried out doing a couple with one color on the top and a second color around the side and that was cute too.)
Roll out a piece of fondant and place it on top of the rice krispie heart. Push fondant around it so it hugs the heart. Use a knife or a toothpick to cut off the excess fondant. If you would like, you can also completely cover the heart. Just bring the fondant around the blank and bring the edges together.

Decorate Them
Now do whatever you want to decorate them! Here are couple different things I did.
While I didn't use corn syrup at first, it was really helpful when sticking fondant to fondant or sprinkles to fondant. I would suggest using it.
Photos 1-3 : You can roll out piece to create borders on the hearts.
Photo 4 : Cut out smaller hearts to decorate. I liked using both of the smaller hearts to make layers.
Photo 5 and 6 : Shape a oval and using another piece of fondant, create a cute little bow.
Photo 7-9 : Cut the smallest heart out of the second smallest heart to create inlaid heart designs.
You can also create decorations and borders with sprinkles.
Have fun decorating! If you know what you want to do, roll out bigger pieces of fondant and cut out a bunch of hearts at once. I was making it up as I went so I kept cutting out one heart at a time.

All of Them
Enjoy your beautiful hearts!
These taste AMAZING! They really do. That's not me bragging or anything, I'm just saying rice krispie treats + marshmallow fondant = awesomeness!
In the second picture you can see two little hearts where I did one color on top and one around the side. If you decide to do that, cut out a heart from fondant that is the same size as the rice krispie heart. Place that on top and then roll out some other color of fondant. I used a pizza cutter and just cut out a long rectangle and wrapped that around the side of the heart.
