Valentine Rice Krispie Bars
I wanted to make some rice krispie treats for my baby shower and since Valentine's is coming up, I decided to use my little heart sprinkles and pink dyed white chocolate to make my treats! Now they work for Valentines and the baby shower.
I made them pink (obviously), but you can change things up and use blue supplies for a baby boy shower.
Supplies
There are so many sprinkles you can use. Try out what you have or find something new to test out.
Ingredients:
- Rice Krispie Bar Ingredients
- 4 tbsp (56g) butter
- 5 cups (225g) mini-marshmallows *
- 5 3/4 cups (152g) Rice Krispies
- Pink Heart Sprinkles
- 2oz White Chocolate - this was the perfect amount to drizzle on the number of bars you see in my picture, but you'll need more if you want to dip your bars rather than drizzle the chocolate over them
- You could also use Pink Candy Melts
- Pink (or red) Food Coloring - remember to use gel to avoid your chocolate seizing
*You can see in the picture that I used special marshmallows. If you find these, don't use them. They were weird and didn't melt well and people didn't like the texture they added to the bars :( Instead, use regular marshmallows and throw in some pink or red dye when they are melted, or just use normal marshmallows as is.
For blue (baby boy) Rice Krispie treats, use blue candy melts (or white chocolate dyed with blue food coloring) and blue sprinkles of choice.
Make the Treats
Melt your butter and add your marshmallows. Keep stirring until they are completely melted. If you want to dye your marshmallows, do it now once the marshmallows are melted. Don't add too much coloring. Remember, you are going to be putting sprinkles and pink white chocolate on top so too dark of pink can make the rest of the decorations disappear.
Add your Rice Krispie cereal to the melted marshmallows. Try not to spill a bunch all over your table.
Spread out your mix in a greased baking dish (I just use a cooking spray). I like to use glass for the baking dish as it makes it easier to come out.
Set aside and let the bars harden up before cutting them.
Cut Bars
Since you are going to add white chocolate, you need to precut your bars and take them out of your baking dish. I ended up with 16 bars (plus 4 smaller bars because I wanted the other 16 to be about the same size).
(If you want more uniform bars, you can try cutting 4 smaller bars from each long side since the curved corners of the bowl will mess up the corner pieces anyway.)
Put down a piece of wax paper so you don't make a mess.
Chocolate Drizzle
Melt and dye your white chocolate. If you are just going to drizzle, you only need about 2 oz, but melt much more if you want to dip your bars.
I used a spoon to carefully drizzle diagonal lines of white chocolate on just half of each bar. You can use a piping bag if you want, but with this small amount, I thought it might just make it more difficult.
You can add the dyed chocolate on in different ways (swirls, or cover the bottom half instead of the size, etc).
Once you are done, let the chocolate dry before putting them all away or it will smear.
