Valentine Puzzle Piece Heart Wreath

Super cute and easy Valentine puzzle piece wreath made from thrift store puzzle pieces.
Supplies

Repurposing old puzzle pieces into a beautiful easy DIY Valentine craft brings me so much satisfaction!
Thrift store large puzzle pieces (about 60 pieces) or you can purchase these
Iron on vinyl (optional)
Cricut machine (optional),
Painting the Puzzle Pieces

Lay our all your puzzle piece to decide how big you want your heart wreath to be. I used 60 pieces.
Separate your pieces into 3 piles. Paint each pile a different color either pink red or white. This is a great project to have the kids help you. My granddaughter LOVED painting the pieces and she is only 2 1/2! I was amazed at how well she did!
Cut Out Heart Shape Base

To create a base for your puzzle pieces I used a large piece of foam core board. I knew it would hold the weight of bigger puzzle pieces.
Lay out all your pieces in the heart shape, using a pencil trace around both sides of the heart shape. Use an exacto knife to cut out the base. Make sure the base is smaller in width so you won't see it when the puzzle pieces are on it. I trimmed mine up a bit.
Attaching Puzzle Pieces

Lay out all the pieces onto the base to see how many you might need per side. I used 30 per side.
Now using a hot glue gun start attaching them overlapping as you go.
Make sure to get hot glue in between the puzzle pieces as well as on the base to hold them into to place nicely.
Also make sure to cover the base as best as you can. You might have to turn your puzzle pieces slightly to make them work the way you want.
Love You to Pieces Banner

I used a 12" X 18" piece of white foam sheet to create the banner. I cut a long piece out of it to measure 3" wide and 18" long to fit the opening of the heart.
To create the little ends of the banner, I cut two 2" square pieces. On one side of each square I cut a "V" shape. I hot glued each piece onto each end.
To make the banner stand up a little bit off of the wreath, I cut a couple of skinny pieces of foam sheet and hot glued them to the back of the banner on each side.
Vinyl letter-
I used my Cricut machine to cut out vinyl letters to be ironed onto the foam sheet. If you do not have a Cricut machine you could just use a permanent marker and write out the words onto the foam sheet.
If using the iron on vinyl here are the steps- After you create your Iron on words on the Cricut workspace, Iron on the black vinyl to the foam sheet banner. Use a cloth to iron over the plastic backing.
As I pulled the plastic backing off, some of the little edges of letters started to pull off. I use my iron to barely touch up any loose areas and it looked awesome!
Adding Ribbon

Add a pretty red ribbon or string and hang it on your front door or any where in your house and enjoy!
