VU METER LED TAPE
this is my vu meter with led tapes ,it s fun the way it works and in the future i am looking to frame it and hang it to the wall.so follow for new instructables
Gather the Components
lm3915 microchip
1*audio jack input
1* 1n4001 diode
1*2.2uf capacitor
1* 100kΩ resistor
1*220Ω resistor
21* 1kΩ resistor 47kΩ potenciometer
10*2n3906 transistor
1*switch
led tape(any colour)
1*toggle switch
1* power plug for 12v
Cut the Led Tape
Carefully cut the led tape in smaller pieces, any length you like ,and solder it with wires.
Do the Assembly
Following the schematic on top you will easily get it done ,start from the left half .it should look like this.I didin t use the toggle switch so what i have done is that i directly connected mode pin to +12v and, in this case it s working on bar mode.See bellow dot and bar mode.
The Right Half
this is the led output part of the chip (pins 1,10...18).it is much more simple than the other half .For every led tape connect 2 resistors of 1kΩ parallel the first one goes to the pin 3 of the transistor which is connected with 12v,the second resistor goes to pin 2 of the transistor and final connect the -(GND) of the led tape to ground and + to pin 1 of the transistor .Connect the 2 resistors with one of the led output pins starting from pin 1 .
Eagle Design
That is my pcb design ! Unfortunatly i can t have it printed in time .I used led instead of led tapes at the design ,but this is no problem ,because the leds are throw hole type it is easy to replace them with led tapes.
Dot and Bar Mode
the above picture are Dot and Bar mode. For Dot mode pin 9 should be grounded ,for bar mode pin 9 should be connected directly to 12 v
