VALET/ CHARGING STATION
Here’s an organized place for your stuff that will keep the contents of your pockets from scratching the dresser top. It’s also a holder for your phone and a convenient place to charge it. Store and display your watches too. Construction is simple as the major components are pre-built.
Supplies
Materials
1- 8”x 10” wood artist panel
1- 5”x 7” wood artist panel (both available from Dollar or Craft stores)
1- 3/8”x 3/4” x 18” pine (ripped from a piece of 1” [actually 3/4”] pine)
1-3,1/2”x 2,1/2” pine (cut from the same piece)
2- 1,1/2” wood screws
2-1/2” wood screws
white glue
sandpaper
stick-on felt protectors
spray primer and paint
Tools are mentioned in each step
PREPARE THE PHONE PANEL
Bevel the 5” edge of the small panel so it leans back on a slight angle. ( #80 sandpaper)
Round over the 4 edges and one end of the 3,1/2”x 2,1/2” block ( #80 sandpaper)
Draw a centre line on the panel. Place your phone on this line and mark its bottom edge.
Make a mark 3/4” below this and drill a hole large enough for your charge cable end to pass through. (I used a step drill)
Turn the panel over and drill two 1/8” holes in the frame where you want the block (watch holder) to be. Glue and screw the watch holder to the panel edge using the two 1, 1/2” screws.
Cut two 1, 1/2” pieces of the 3/8” pine. Sand and glue to the line marking the bottom edge of your phone. Leave a gap for the cable.
ASSEMBLE
Turn the large panel upside down so it is like a tray.
Place the bevelled edge of the small panel at the back right so it leans against the frame.
Mark the location. Drill 2 holes and install the panel with the 2 small wood screws from underneath and glue.
Cut and glue down pieces of the 3/8” pine strip so it creates dividers in any configuration you want.
FINISH
Sand with #120 sandpaper, prime and paint.
Attach felt stick on protectors to the bottom.
