Utilitarian Origami Part I - the Cup

Have you ever been in a situation where you needed a drink of water either for thirst or for something like taking a pill? Here is a solution, learn this once and know it when you need it. There is a high probability, wherever you are, that there is a sheet of paper nearby. Notebook paper, a pamphlet, a flyeror printer paper. Anything will do. You can then fill it at the nearest faucet.

This design will use a standard rectangular sheet instead of a square one. Similar to this

First Fold

The following steps will show you what to do, I used a two color paper to make it more clear. The step following the instruction will show that instruction completed.

First take your piece of paper and bring corners A and B together and fold.

Fold 2

Now take corner A to corner B and fold.

Flip

Now flip the whole thing over to the other side.

Now take corner A to corner B and fold.

Fold 4

Now take the half of the paper at A and fold to B. It is important that you fold both pieces at this point.

Flip

Now flip the whole thing over to the other side.

Repeat the same thing on this side, fold everything at A to B.

Open Up

Now open up the center, you will have a pocket.

Done!

Now you have a cup that will hold water for a few good minutes.
