Utensil Strap

IMG_1762.JPG

The Utensil Strap is a wearable assistive device designed to help people who have limited movement in one hand or fingers use everyday utensils independently. Worn around the wrist or arm, it features three switches that allow users to select and use any utensil of their choice. This 3D-designed invention makes eating, cooking, etc. easier, more comfortable, and more accessible.

Supplies

  1. 3D printer and filament
  2. Hot glue gun and refills
  3. A somewhat thick hairtie or bracelet
  4. three utensils of choice (i used these small razor blades)

Go ahead and get started by printing the design linked below. This may take long but I promise the finished result will be worth it.

Heat Hot Glue

Once your design is done printing, get your hot glue gun and turn it on. Wait for it to heat up.

Build Your Design 1/4

Gently glue the top end of the switch to the bottom of the small platforms. Do this for all three.

Build Your Design 2/4

Situate the switches into each of the 3 compartments on the main design and slip the switch part to each little hole so that the ends stick out. Align all of the platforms into one straight line and if needed, trim the ends of each platform in order to get that straight line.

Build Your Design 3/4

Hot glue any utensil of choice but make sure it fits through the hole on the top of the main design when it flips up and that it is upright.

Once you're done with the entire build, hot glue the fourth side to the main design.

Incorporate the Bracelet

Gently slide a bracelet or a hair tie into the button clip part before wrapping around your wrist or forearm.
