Using Hot Glue to Hang Christmas Lights

Hot glue is not something that most people think of when they are hanging their Christmas Lights. However, it can be a great tool to hang lights on brick and stucco.

Why Hot Glue?

Brick and stucco make it difficult to hang lights using most usual methods. Hot glue is one way that you can highlight your brick home or building to make it more festive and fun.

Gather Your Materials

To hot glue your lights, you want to first gather your materials. We recommend using empty socket line, as it can easily be customized to the right length for your needs, unlike stringer sets where you are stuck with the configuration that they come in.

Materials you need:

Empty Socket Line

Hot Glue Gun

Glue Sticks (we use 7-8 inch glue sticks)

Diagonal Cutters

Light Bulbs of Your Choice

Male and Female Slip On Sockets

Start the Process

Start hanging your lights in the center of the area that you are covering. For our purposes, we are starting in the center of the archway and leaving enough light cord on each side to go down the arch. To make sure it is long enough, add a few sockets to each end. If they are not needed, they can be cut off.

Hot Gluing Your Lights

Now you are ready to start gluing. You can glue with the lights installed in the sockets or without. It is entirely a personal choice, although you run the risk of getting glue on your lights if you are not careful.

Apply the hot glue to the side of the socket as shown and then press the socket against the brick or stucco. Use additional glue at the top for maximum staying power.

Continue gluing each socket as directed until you have the area covered.

Finishing Up

Now that you have the sockets all glued, you are ready to add the bulbs (if you haven't already) and the plugs.

These slide-on plugs are very easy to install. Simply cut the cord where you want to put the cord and then slide the male or female plug onto the end of the cord.

Enjoy!

Now that you have your lights up and ready to plug in, all you have left to do is enjoy!
