Using Ghost Chilli and Curry Alcohol Spray for Gardens to Repel Animals..
Here I will make an Instructable that shows how you can extract 14-18 grams of chill peppers (Ghost pepper extract) with Isopropanol alcohol and tween 20 and add curry and filter at the end. Ghost chili pepper powder ground fine is very soluble in alcohol and can be extracted at 60-70 deg C by a reflux device.
Cyanine is 5000 SH units while Ghost is 1 million SH units. It also makes sense to buy the ghost pepper powder 70 g for 20 dollars on eBay or Amazon.
Hot curry and bitterex 1 g will repel animals very effectively.
For the spray bottle, I recommend (Double) filtering to prevent clogging of the spray bottle.
Supplies
Materials:
Jewelry Scale.
Weighing dishes.
1 L two-necked bottom flask.
Condenser.
Hot plate and Magnetic stirrer capability. Note they can be quite pricy.
Digital thermometer with Probe.
Filter paper and funnel.
Chemicals:
Isopropanol alcohol 99.99 percent.
Ghost chili pepper powder.
Liquid Tween 20.
Bitterex.
Curry.
Making the Ghost Chili Extract. 14 G and 18 G Type.
For one bottle prep weigh out 14 g of Ghost chili pepper powder. Be aware that without a mask the powder dust may cause you to sneeze a bit so I recommend wearing gloves, a mask, and eye protection. Place it in the flask and fill halfway with Alcohol (Isoproponal alcohol).
Add tween 20 (a tablespoon) and put in a medium stir bar. Set up for reflux.
Add the condenser and allow the hot plate to heat up to 60 degrees with the probe thermometer. Heat for 5 hrs and allow stirring and cooling to get a lot of chilies to react with the solvent.
An alternative is a Solxet extraction. However, i don't have that.
If you want more powder then weigh out 18 g of Powder and put into the funnel into the flask and add half alcohol 500 ml. Then again heat until it reaches 70 deg C off and on (6 to 7 hrs) twice daily for two days before purifying the liquid.
Adding the Curry and Spraying Onto Plants.
Weigh out 5 g of very hot curry and then add 1 g of bitterex to each bottle. Shake and double filter into the spray bottles.
Now spray onto the desired plants you want to protect from hungry animals.
I have been trying this for a few months and no animals have eaten any crops in the garden.
Thanks for reading this.
