Hi All,
I bought the oscillating tool, thinking it would a good tool for my DIY work. But for the last 2 years, I have hardly used it. I this instructable, I will share I how tried to use it for cutting glass bottle to make it a planter...
Supplies
- Oscillating Saw
- Diamond disc
- Wood planks
- Superglue
- Hot glue
- Clamps
Stand

- The basic idea is to hold oscillating saw is its position
- The stand is made from scrap wood pieces
- All wood pieces are 4 inch in length and 2 to 3 inches in width
- Fixed them together to make an "H" stand as shown
Attaching Saw

- Use zip ties to hold the saw in place
- Then use hot glue to fill any gaps, this reduces vibrations or any wobble during use
- On a big wooden plank, mount this assemble using a clamp as shown
- May have to adjust blade inclination, it should be parallel to the base wooden plank
Preparing the Bottle

- Bottles are not square and they will wobble during the cut
- To avoid this, I stuck the bottle on the flat wood piece using hot glue
- Add painter's tape on the bottle as a guide while cutting
Challenges and Conclusion

- It was extremely difficult to keep the bottle steady and the hot glue did not hold the bottle in place
- The Oscillating saw blade is too thick and rough, needed a different blade
- Because of saw vibrations, the weakest or thin section of glass bottle developed a crack
- It takes too much time to cut the glass bottle
After several passes and attempts, I was finally able the cut the bottle.
If you ever thought to use your oscillating saw to cut glass bottle, you can do it, but have to use a smoother and thinner diamond blade. I think using Dremel with a 50mm disc gives a much better result.
If you have tried this, do share your experience
