What to do with used coffee containers? This instructable quickly transforms a coffee can into a display pot for orchids.

Orchids have unique growing habits. They do not like soil and their roots must have air. Orchids are often killed by leaving the pot and roots in standing water. Orchid pots have slits to enable air to get to the roots. This is key to successfully growing orchids.

The pot I use is 6” diameter to match the coffee can.

Drill holes in the upper part of the can to allow some air into the can. The orchid in its air pot will sit on the top of the can.

Measure out burlap to cover the can, overlapping about an inch.

Apply glue to the can and put the burlap on it, smoothing out as you go.

I attempted to put the glue on top of the burlap, this doesn’t work well.

You can use the coffee can lid to create a clean edge, cut out as much as possible.

Embellish with a button an twine.

I always remove orchids to water, placing them in a sink. This pot will allow some water to accumulate in the bottom. Don’t overwater.
