"Up"-Inspired Pincushion House

Inspiration Quote
"The real adventure is the people we meet along the way."
— Up (2009)
A miniature "Up"-themed house model with floating balloons, using colorful round-headed pins as balloons. This decorative yet functional piece serves as both a reminder to chase dreams and a practical pincushion
Supplies

Materials:
- White cardstock (for house structure)
- Watercolor paper (details)
- Bamboo skewer (chimney/balloon anchor)
- Foam ball (balloon base)
- Colorful round-headed pins ("balloons")
- LED fairy lights (optional for night effect)
Tools:
- Pencils, colored pencils, pens
- Scissors, ruler
- Student glue, hot glue gun
- Craft knife (precision cuts)
Design & Base Construction

- Research: Study "Up" movie posters for house proportions.
- Sketch: Draft house facades (front, sides, roof) on cardstock.
- Cut & Assemble:
- Cut out walls and roofs. Create cross-gabled roofs (horizontal + vertical layers).
- Reinforce joints with student glue; use hot glue for load-bearing areas (e.g., chimney base).
- Insert a bamboo skewer into the chimney, secured with hot glue to a thickened cardstock base.
- Ensure skewer stands vertically to support the "balloon cluster."
Detailing & Coloring

- Outline windows/door with pen for crisp edges.
- Color walls with pencils/markers:
- Pastel hues for nostalgia (reference Carl’s house).
- Weathering effects (light brown washes) for aged wood.
Balloon Cluster

- Foam Ball Prep: Drill a hole to fit skewer tip; hot-glue in place.
- Pins as Balloons: Insert pins densely into the foam, mixing colors for vibrancy.
- LED Lights (Optional): Wrap battery-operated fairy lights around the skewer for a dreamy glow.
