UUFC Winter Solstice Walk

Welcome to the UUFC's Winter Solstice walk. In some earth-centered traditions, people celebrate a Yule vigil, lighting a candle at sunset and safeguarding the sun's light all through the darkest, longest night of the year. Not everyone can stay up all night, though! So we invite you to keep a symbolic vigil with us. Take a candle at the Sunset station, light it, and follow the signs around the grounds. At Sunrise, you can extinguish your candle and take a celebratory photo of yourself and your friends or family, if you like! Join us.

It's right next to the sheltered bench. Under the overhand, you'll find a box containing candles, matches, and electric votives if you prefer a fire-free experience. Take a candle, light it, and continue on to the first station.

Follow the Signs.

There are six stations with beautiful words from Prayers for a Planetary Pilgrim by Edward Hays, arranged around the parking lot. You can walk from sign-to-sign and visit them for quiet contemplation of what the darkest night of the year means to you.

Take Pictures, If You Like!

At the end of the walk, you can visit our fun selfie station, with a background of stars and a box full of hats and other props. If you do decide to take one, we'd love to see it! You can email yours to reassociate@uucorvallis.org.

Happy Solstice!
