Have you ever sat in the back of a car on a long road trip and did not want to put your phone all the way up front to charge it? If so you will like this project. We will make a USB extender so you can charge your phone all the way from the back seat.

The tools and parts you will need are:

  • Soldering Iron
  • Wire Stripers
  • Pliers
  • USB cable from a mouse or other thing with a long USB cable
  • USB port I got from a USB wall charger

Desolder and Strip the Wires

Polarities and Soldering

I found the polarities by using a voltmeter and marked them with a marker. Then I soldered the wires to the connections on the USB port. WARNING:The USB connections are very fragile. I broke two USB ports when I was making this USB extender.

  • Blue=negative or black wire
  • Green= data green wire
  • No color=white data wire
  • Red=positive or red wire

Hot Glue

Hot glue time. Cover all the connections with hot glue.

Test

Now just test the USB extender. If it doesn't work then check the connections and make sure there are no sorts and the USB connections are not broken.

Liquid Electric Tape

This step is optional but makes the USB connection to fit in with the wire. Just put the liquid electric tape around the hot glue and USB port and let it dry. This was my first Instructable and tell me what to improve in the next one. PLEASE VOTE FOR ME!
