UD-4 is a computing and mechanical task assistant droid. He boasts versatile mobility, being able to walk over difficult terrain in a bipedal fashion, or roll once the legs have folded into the wheel configuration. UD-4 can also access all droid sockets by using the universal computer interface arm which extends from his head. He stands at 20 inches when both legs and neck are extended, making him a small yet staunch companion.

I began my process by sketching - a lot! I specifically was looking at what makes existing droids so lovable and unique to the Star Wars universe. I knew that I wanted to have my droid move in at least two ways, as I wanted it to be practical, but also able to display more emotion in the way it moves. I eventually arrived at the wheel/leg design, which I designed the droid around. A big hurdle in this project was that I had never used Fusion 360 before, but thankfully after getting the free trial I found that it was pretty intuitive.

This project has been incredibly fun, as I have been a life-long Star Wars fan! It brought challenges, but I was able to create something I'm pretty happy with. I hope you like UD-4!

Thank you so much!
