U-M0 is a utility droid designed to assist with vehicle repair and maintenance. Its main body houses various tools for such tasks, most of which are held in the modules on the droid’s back. U-M0 also has compartments in its rotating head, similar to the dome of an astromech. Though occasionally clumsy and scatterbrained, U-M0 tries its best to be as helpful as possible in the garage or machine shop.

My design process began when I came up with the idea for the rim which wraps around the main body of the droid. Though I had not yet solidified a design for the overall silhouette of the droid, I had decided that this rim was an interesting shape which I wanted to incorporate somehow. Once I had figured out that I wanted U-M0 to have a loveable personality, the design for the rest of the droid became easier to develop. With U-M0’s personality in mind I decided to make it short and stout with wheels rather than legs and give it a domed head with bright round eyes rather than a more human-like head mounted to a neck. U-M0’s long, lanky arms add to his slightly goofy look and are versatile enough to fit his function as a repair droid. I filled much of the main body with details to give it the appearance of being an incredibly versatile droid, as if it were essentially a robotic Swiss army knife.
