How to Convert a Rocksmith Cable to USB-C for Modern Devices

Introduction

I’ve been using a Rocksmith cable as my main audio interface for everything from guitar practice to basic home recording. It works surprisingly well with my devices—including my Windows laptop, MacBook, and sometimes even my phone. The only issue is that all of these devices use USB Type-C ports, while the Rocksmith cable ends in an old-school USB-A connector. To get around this, I’ve been using OTG adapters or dongles, which adds bulk and makes the setup less convenient, especially on the go.

To streamline my setup and avoid carrying extra adapters, I decided to upgrade the Rocksmith cable itself by converting it to USB Type-C. Instead of adding a clunky adapter, I modified the cable directly by replacing the Xbox USB breakaway connector at the end of the Rocksmith cable with a clean, built-in USB-C connection.
