Two-Tone Silicone Coaster

This instructable is for creating a two-tone (dual colored) silicone coaster. It should be done with the same type of silicone for both pours; the type of silicone used in the demo is Eco-Flex™ 00-50 Super-Soft Platinum Silicone. This technique can be applied to other silicone projects as well.

The mold used in this instructable creates a coaster with a diameter of 3.75 inches and height of 0.25 inches. In addition, there is a 0.125 inch thick lip with a height of 0.5 inches on the edge of the coaster to catch water. The indent of the bird is 0.1 inches deep. This design can be modified for other designs and thicknesses.

Supplies

List of Supplies:

  • Silicone dyes

Mix around 50 mL of silicone per instructions for the type of silicone being used and add in desired colors using silicone inks. Pour into the mold and, once the silicone is set in the mold, wait for it to cure (to be safe, around 24 hours).

Remake around 10 mLs of silicone the same way as the first pour and make silicone the desired color for the indent in the center. Pour the silicone into the hollow in the middle (be careful not to spill or overflow); if there is overflow or the silicone spills out of the hollow, it can be removed carefully using a paper towel.

Done!
