Turn Hurricane Lamps Into LED Lamps
I used old spotlight fixtures to turn paraffin lamps into LED lights. These LED lamps only use 4W of power, which means they will not only reduce your monthly electricity consumption and reduce your carbon footprint, but they are also ideal to using in conjunction with a generator-inverter when the power goes out.
1. To turn the paraffin hurricane lamp into an LED lamp I took the old light fittings apart to remove the lamp holder. If you don't have an old fitting to take apart you can buy what you need at your local hardware store. You will also need to disassemble the hurricane lamp in order to mount the lamp holder. Note: The paraffin container on the lamp must be empty and clean.
2. To secure the lamp holder into the hurricane lamp I used epoxy glue. This was left overnight to ensure it was properly set.
3. Now you can insert the LED bulb into the lamp holder and put the glass cover back in place.
4. You will need an on / off clicker and a length of 2-core electrical cabinet to wire up your new lamp - all available at your local hardware store. The on / off clicker allows you to easily join the existing and new wires together.
Now all you have to do is to add a plug and you are ready to switch on your new hurricane LED lamps!
