Turn an Old Book Into Magical Garden!
If you're like me, there are piles on a piles of old books at your house and each of them keeps an important memory. However, it's nearly impossible to read them all, so I found a great way to use this treasure differently. This time let's turn an old book into a magical garden! For this you'll need supplies mostly found at your house, including plastic and leather scraps and pebbles from backyard, so it's cheap and fun! Also, it won't take much of your time - just about 30 minutes!
For this project you will need:
- an old book
- a real plant (cactus, succulent etc.)
- an exacto knife
- pen and scissors
- a piece of plastic
- a piece of leather scrap
- pebbles
- hot glue gun
- artificial plant leaves
Cut a Hole!
Start by opening book at a page that you like the most but leave most of the paper on the left side, so that carving is nice and deep. Draw a rectangle and start to cut it with an exacto knife (you might need couple of new blades during the procedure). This step is pretty dangerous one, so keep safe! Also, don't worry, if cutting is not perfect, we won't be able to see it later.
Secure It!
Turn few pages over and place an old piece of plastic into the hole and secure it with hot glue. Then put the turned pages back to hide the plastic seams.
Make a Leather Bookmark!
Draw a simple figure on the back of leather scrap and cut it out with scissors. Keep in mind to make a bookmark a little longer than you need, because we will tuck one end between the pages later on.
Add the Magic!
Now it's time to do the magic! Plant a plant into the hole and press it firmly, then add artificial plant leaves, pebbles and leather bookmark to the book and your new room decoration is ready!
I really hope it works for you just as well for me. I suggest using plants that don't require a lot of watering, otherwise the book might get wet a lot quicker. My cactus is growing well and the book is solid for about 6 months now! :)
