Turn Your Blue Jeans a Pastel Color

I am loving the pastel jean trend! However, the price tags are just a bit too much for me. So I decided to make my own using jeans I bought from a thrift store for three dollars.

Here is a quick tutorial on how you can also make your own pastel jeans using only a few supplies.

A pair of jeans. I would suggest you first try it out with a pair of jeans that might not be your favorite.

Bleach. I bought my bleach from the dollar store.

Fabric dye. Use your favorite brand. I used Rit.

A bucket large enough so your jeans can move.

Water.

Gloves.

Large plastic spoon

Fill your bucket with water and add some beach. I used a 50-50 ratio. Make sure it's enough so when your jeans are some submerged they're fully underwater.

Now submerge your jeans.

Stir your jeans occasionally with the plastic spoon.

Leave your jeans submerged for about six hours.

After about six hours take your jeans out and rinse them. I used the rinse cycle of my washing machine for this step.

Once they are rinsed go ahead and do a 50-50 bleach and water ratio mix again.

Submerge again for about six hours. Even a bit longer.

At this point your jeans will start fading. Keep repeating this step until your jeans are fully bleached. You want them to be almost white.

Keep repeating Step 3 until your jeans almost if not completely white.

Take your jeans out and wash them in the washing machine.

Choose your favorite dye color and follow the instructions to prepare it.

Submerge your jeans in the dye and stir them constantly. The longer you leave them the darker they will become.

Once the jeans have achieved your desired color. Take them out and rinse them until the water runs clear.

Follow this step by washing the jeans in the washing machine with a little bit of detergent.

Take your jeans out of the washing machine and place them in the dryer.

Once this step is complete you are all done!
