E Waste, also known as electronic waste, is going to be one of the biggest problems in the upcoming decades. As more people start to consume electronic goods, the waste will increase. This will lead to the disruption of our ecosystem and cause really deadly diseases. Even though I have knowledge of this, I have still thrown a lot of electronics in the past.

Hi, I am a student in high school who is interested in making electronics projects. Now, I am going to recycle electronic components which were supposed to go to the bin, into an awesome figurine.

Supplies

  • Waste and unwanted electronics
  • Fusion 360

Designing the Model

Figurine Design Process

For designing the model, I used Fusion 360, a tool by Autodesk, which I mostly use for 3D printing. It took me around 20 minutes to make the model. The final model is in this Folder.

Building the Torso

I have taken 2 broken DC motor casing for the upper body. I stuck them using superglue. Then I took two 7 - segment display (most LEDs are not working) and made the lower body. I then joined both the pieces together.

Building the Limbs

I took 2 capacitors and intertwined the pins. Do the same for 2 more capacitors and stick them to the torso. These are the legs.

For the arms, I took 2 capacitors and put the pins into the DC motor through a small hole. I took smaller capacitors, to extend the right arm. Then for the left arm, I used an old AUX pin.

Head

I took a broken USB port and used it as the head for the figurine.

Now, the base is finished. It's time to make it look better.

Extra Features

I first took a broken relay, removed all its pins and mounted it on the figurine's back. I felt that a coil (of a brushless motor) will look cool on it. I also added a small PCB (Printed Circuit Board) towards the left of the coil.

Now, I made a sword, using an old PCB from a battery charging circuit and a screw. Then I took a PCB with a small hole. I passed the sword's handle through it and stuck it. I glued the sword and PCB to the arm of the figure.

For the base, I used a PCB (it was from a lamp which got damaged due to heating).

Conclusion

First of all, thanks a lot for viewing my project. I really hope you liked it. This is my first project using E Waste and the results were better than I expected. I feel that the figure shouldn't be painted because I like the industrial feel of electronics. You don't need all the components that I had. All you need is some old electronics and a lot of creativity.

Have a good time building

:)
