8.Plastic sheet for the workspace
9. Empty container
Preparing Your Clay
Cut out pieces of clay using the metal scale.
Roll out the clay, fold and repeat till the clay becomes less sticky.
While rolling you may get a few air bubbles, be sure to pop them out before you start modeling.
Basic Form
Roll out the basic shape and cut it out into the shape you want.
For more 3-d like forms using rolled up paper and foil.
Be sure to not make it thinner than a quarter-inch. The thinner a region is the more prone it is to get cracks.
Slip
A slip is helpful to stick different pieces together and also seal cracks.
Mix bits of dry clay with little water(few drops) to form a paste like mixture.
Adding in Features
Make the basic shape and score the back
Also score the place you want to attach it to. Now add little bit of slip using a brush onto the piece to be attached. And paste it in the place.
Add a nose by rolling and then flatten it and cut. Also make a mouth and few rolls for the hair.
Adding in the Details
Here I've added a few clay beads and wooden sticks I used to decorate it.
There's endless options when it comes to detailing.
I also added a nose ring. Bend a thin bobby pin into a ring and wrap a thin roll of clay around the loop and insert the ends into the nose.
Paint
I painted the mask with acrylic paints. Not too much to worry about, take your paints just take less water.
Adding Hook to Hang
I added a bit of M seal and a round pin hook. Alternatively, you could add a strong bobby pin. Let it dry till hard. This step could also be done with clay before while the mask mold was being made.
And you're done!! Your clay mask is ready to colour and liven up your space.
