Treasure Chest-recycled Boxes

P6265416.JPG

These unassuming boxes are made from paper boxes usually thrown away! To save the Earth, we must reduce, reuse, recycle as much as possible. This is a very simple "chest" to make, with little items required, mostly which are recyclable. The box can be used in any way you want, from storing treasure to candies. ;D

Materials

First, peel the side of the box open to obtain a net.

Then, draw a 0.5cm border as shown in the pictures.

Don't forget to mark a line, as it will be cut there.

Assemble the box as shown.

Cut along the line you have marked, and glue the flap into place.

The shape of the "chest" would appear.

Holding in Place

Hold it securely for the glue to dry, if not it will go out of shape.

If you accidentally tore the box, don't worry, just patch it up with paper the same colour of the box.

Using the magazine/newspaper, cut out 2 (6.5cm x 4.5cm) and 3 (4.5cm x 4.2cm) pictures, for boxes of this box's dimensions.

Painting

Paint along the borders of the lines you drew.

You can paint the whole box if you want to.

Optional Step

To ensure the box closes securely, you can glue fridge magnets to the cover of the box, and the inside of the box.

So your goodies won't spill out!

You can also glue scrap cloth onto the inside of the box for padding and covering up the inside of the box. (refer to first pic) Wouldn't want people to know what you bought...

Finishing Up

Glue the pictures you cut out onto the box. And you're done! What you store inside, who knows?
