Trash Bag Simbiote
I have seen DIY Simbioets on line and I thought I would like to make one.
I wanted to make it from common house hold items and to be quick and easy.
I hope you like it and make one!
construction time…about 1hr.
Supplies
You will need...
One or two big black trash bags.
Newspaper.
Two wire coat hangers.
One white plastic milk jug (empty).
Hot glue gun and glue sticks.
Maybe some black tape.
Scissors.
Dykes...wire cutters.
Awl...a tool to poke a hole. You can use most anything, just be careful!
Plastic Bag Tubes
Start by cutting one plastic bag in half, top to bottom.
Stuff both halves with newspaper and glue them together with the hot glue gun to make a tube shape.
The tubes should be as large as a human leg. Weight is an issue with the coat hangers, try to keep it light.
Mouth
This will be the mouth.
Draw a large oval on the side of your milk jug.
Cut out the oval.
Fold the oval in half.
Fold the edges. Use a marker to press the creases well.
Cut out the teeth.
Poke a hole in the back center of the mouth.
Install the Mouth
Choose one of the tubes.
Pick the closed end and push the mouth into the end.
Once it is in place, hot glue it, to secure it.
Be aware, that this does not have to be perfect...other stray pieces of plastic bag can be added to cover up areas you do not like. The more free form it is, the better.
Eyes
Draw some eyes on the remaining milk jug.
If you want them similar, draw one first, cut it out and trace it.
Then, hot glue them in place. Fluff the newspaper to make a desired head shape.
Prepare the Wire Coat Hanger
Take apart the coat hangers, straighten them, and tape them together. Then make a handle on one end (round part) and bend an angle on the other to be inserted in the hole in the back of the mouth.
Hot glue the angle to secure it.
Weight is an issue with this project, I doubled up my wire hangers. You can choose to use a stronger stick for your Simbioet. I wanted mine to make use of the thin coat hanger wire.
Attach the Body to the Head
Stuff the head…make the news paper light and fluffy. Put a knot below the head to hold the newspaper in place.
I found that the coat hangers needed to be doubled up to hold the head up, the lighter the better.
Attach the body to the head…but test them out first for size and weight before sealing them up with hot glue.
Use another piece of a trash bag to cover the knot.
Final Touches
I started ripping apart another trash bag, making random size pieces and strips. I then hot glued them to the head and body. Some pieces were attached well and some were hanging off.
I also trimmed up the teeth.
I then colored red around the outside of of the teeth and tipped the teeth with a black permanent marker. I was able to blend the marker with my finger which gave it a more natural look.
When you are finished, just tuck the tail end on your shirt.
There are no rights or wrongs to this project because a Simbioet can have many sizes and shapes Have fun if you try and make this. Add something new, or different. I would love to see how you made yours!
