Cool Wall Trim DIY

It really can be that simple to change the whole character of a room in a few short hours. A little bit of pine trim, some nails, a little creativity, and you're well on your way.
Cool As Trim

I'm always looking for inexpensive ways to DIY up some big-bucks-looking pizazz around the house. For the longest time I thought I'd put some artwork up over the headboard I built in our master bedroom until one day I thought, huh, trim.
I drew up a few different versions on AutoCAD but you can just as easily measure the wall and plan it out on a piece of paper.
I only needed just a few pieces of flat trim stock and I chose the width of it based on a proportional division of the wood blocks I made for the headboard.
Before

Here's the wall before. I apologize for the terrible photos. It was a dark and dreary day, I had no choice but to turn on the overhead lights.
Find Center and Go

Using a laser measure, I found center on the wall and with my miter saw, cut two pieces of the flat trim stock at 45 degrees. Using a brad nailer, I tacked the pieces on the wall.
Measure and Cut

Here I cut 45 degrees and placed pieces in the corners at the ceiling.
Instead of measuring with a measuring tool, I field measured the remaining pieces and cuts due to the fact that our walls are absolutely reliably not square remotely at all.
Trimming

Our headboard is removable but I went around it anyway with the trim. I patched all the nail heads and where the pieces of trim met with Durham's water putty then sanded all that smooth.
Admire

I took a second here to admire my handiwork. It's amazing how you can totally and completely transform a room in just a few short hours for less than $40.
Yeah I missed a few lines but it didn't bother me.
Paint

I opted to paint the trim to match the existing wall color as I intended for this to be a subtle textural element that provided some cool shadows.
After

Here's an after shot of everything completed. Be sure to swing on by my blog Flipping the Flip for more details about this project plus a whole lot more fun stuff.
Admire Again

For such a simple, inexpensive project, it really adds some serious drama and dresses up the wall beautifully while not competing with the headboard.
Hope you give it a whirl!
