Traditional Terracotta Plant Pot

Hello everyone,
In this instructable i will only show you, how to make a terracotta tree planter pot.
There are different steps in this like, how to make clay, how to make a Mould and how to burn. But they are completely huge and lengthy process, so i won't talk about them in this tutorial.
Here we will only concentrate on how a pot being get ready from piece of clay to Ready to burn stage.
There are different kind of pots available, like round, heart shape, rectangle. But, in this tutorial we will make a pentagonal pot with 5 tiles joint side by side.

The main two important thing here we will be needing is Clay and the Mould. There are many types of clay available in market, you can purchase them. And i think there are moulds also available, not sure.

We make our clay on our own, there is a process of making clay at home but its bit lengthy, so i will not show here. Also we made our own mould for making the tiles.

Making a mould is also a different process. I hope i will bring each of them in future instructables.

So, here we will only make a Pot out of clay.

Here we need some amount of clay for each tiles. Take clay and place it on the mould, now spread the clay all over the mould and get the shape by hard pressing it, so that no gap remains and the clay completely fill inside the mould and take the shape.

Finely finish the tile and leave the extra clay. Now take a small amount of clay and pump out the edges and in this way the tile will come out from the mould.
Make 4 more tiles like this and keep them in the sunlight for about half an hour so that it gets harden a bit to join.

For the tiles to stand we need a base. Here we need a pentagonal base, but we cant make it directly pentagonal, because we need to fix the tiles first.
So we will make a round base and then we'll mount the tiles on it and then cut the excess.
It will automatically get the shape. Also first dry the base with the other tiles and make a drainage hole in the center.

Now, this is the most important step, you need to be careful about. Here we will join each tiles.

Take the base & add some water and clay at the bottom. Then take the 1st tile and joint with the base at an inclined position and fix it with extra clay.

Next take the 2nd tile and place it next to the first tile and join it with water and extra clay as show in the pictures.

And then repeat the process for the next three tiles. Fix the bottom and inner part of all the tiles with extra clay and water and finish them nicely with hand.

Now join the bottom and outer corner of each tiles with clay and water as well and finish nicely with hand. Lastly cut off the extra base that remains out and make it pentagonal in shape.

Now keep the whole pot in sunlight, it takes hours to dry and becomes grey when dried.

After the drying process, it will become harden and will be ready for the Burning process. When burning completes it will become golden or gets the terracotta color and hard enough not to break.

So it was so simple to make a Traditional terracotta pot.
