Traditional Cooking: Yellow Onion With Chicken Dish
I first ate this dish many years ago. As a child, I was tempted to say that an onion food could not be eaten because it was spicy and smelled too strong.
My mother, who was just cooking, urged me not to be agitated and to taste when it will be ready.
He was right. Onions boiled well and in combination with meat and spices has a special flavor.
This food is traditionally Romanian and has been made since ancient times.
It is a tasty, healthy and nutritious food. I have done it many times and it has never disappointed me.
Supplies
Any food market in the world.
Let's Talk About Ingredients
- 500g. chicken breast cleaned and washed
- 1Kg. yellow onion of medium size
- 50 ml. olive oil
- 1 bell pepper
-
Salt, ground pepper to taste.
There are few ingredients and they are not hard to find.
We Clean and Cut the Meat and Vegetables.
We clean the skin of the meat and cut it into cubes, we clean the bell pepper and we cut it into slices and we clean the onion after which we cut it in 4. See photo.
After they are cleaned, the vegetables are washed.
Fry the Chicken for a Few Minutes.
Pour the 50 ml of olive oil on the bottom of a medium-sized pot.
After heating the oil, put the meat in cubes and fry for a few minutes until golden brown on all sides (stir often).
The stove fire will be medium. See photo.
We Add Onions.
Add the onion on top, stirring often for 5 ... 10 minutes until slightly softened. See photo.
We Add the Latest Ingredients.
Add the chopped bell pepper, salt and pepper to taste. Mix. See photos.
Boil for About 1 Hour. Ready!
Put the lid on the pot. Boil for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
Add water if it drops too much.
The stove will be on low heat.
At the end, the onion will have the consistency of a thicker paste, as in the main photo.
For the given quantities, 6 food portions are obtained.
It is served hot and can be reheated (if I kept it in the fridge).
It can be served with bread, toast or polenta (recommended).
And that's it!
