MRE made from Trader Joe's products.

Goal is to make an MRE that is vegetarian, does not require refigeration or heating.

  1. Trader Joe's Whole Wheat Tortillas
  2. Trader Joe's Raisin Bran
  3. Trader Joe's Thai Wheat Bran Noodles
  4. Trader Joe's Giant Baked Beans in Tomato Sauce in easy open can
  5. Trader Joe's Smoked Almonds
  6. 2 Trader Joe's Fruit Leather Wraps
  7. Paper bag
  8. Small plastic bags with closing clip
  9. Thick rubber band
  10. Plastic utensils (I used a bag of utensils from The Halal Guys, a food truck in Midtown Manhattan, NYC; www.TheHalalGuys.com)

Bag Loose Items

  1. Take out 3 plastic bags to place food items in.
  2. Pour raisin bran into one bag and seal.
  3. Pour almonds into a 2nd bag and seal.
  4. Take 2 tortillas, place them into 3rd bag and seal.

Remove Thai Wheat Noodles

  1. Remove one bag of Thai Wheat Noodles from box.

Place Items Into Bag

  1. Place the bag of Thai wheat noodles into paper bag first.
  2. Place can of beans into bag on top of noodles.
  3. Place 3 plastic bags of wheat bran, tortillas and almonds on top of beans/noodles.
  4. Place the 2 fruit leather wraps and utensils into bag last.
  5. Close paper bag and secure with rubber band.
  6. MRE should stay fresh for about 2 to 3 months.
  7. In the field, the plastic and paper bags can be used to hold additional items and to hold the garbage produced after eating.
