Toyota Ergo Lift - an Ergonomic Control System Using Generative Design and Fusion 360
This is the Toyota Ergo Lift Controller. This project is a project for Toyota using Fusion 360 CAD and I am part of California College of the Arts (CCA).
Ergo Lift is an ergonomic controller focusing on reducing repetitive stress injuries and catering to the quickly growing Gen Z work force. With control buttons reminiscent of a gaming controller, the Ergo Lift Controller will have the new generation of workers feeling comfortable and engaged with their tasks.
Using generative design, this controller creates visual intrigue as well as minimize material making this design light, strong, sustainable, and easily repairable.
Supplies
In this project I used clay and cardboard to model the design. I then molded it in the form environment using Fusion 360 refering to 3D prints of the design to make such the form was accurate to the ergonomic standards I set out to meet.
Rendered in Keyshot and Animated in Keyshot with Premier Pro for editing. (See animation at the bottom)
Inspiration
My inspiration for form development was looking at current gaming controllers. Their highly refined forms, successful in working with different hand sizes, have been tried and true for years now. I also kept generative integration in my mind from the start of the project while also taking cues from them, such as button curvature, form flow, and expression.
Ergonomics
Button placement, sizing, and refinement was backed by extensive user testing to find the right controller size and shape for multiple different hand types.
Buttons
An antimicrobial controller with comfortable and easy press buttons affords every user who sits behind the control system peace of mind knowing they will be comfortable and clean through the work day.
How It Works
Watch this video showing the control system and how movement works with this new style of controller.
Thank You
