Touch Light Dimmer

We began with this project in my design for change class. We followed a process that is based on, discovery, ideation, experimentation, prototyping, and testing. This includes, brain storming looking for drivers and constraints, asking for feedback, etc. The idea that we came up with after a lot of thinking and wondering around was to make a lamp that was easy to turn on and off, thats why we decided that it would be a touch light were you only have to touch the lamp in order to turn it on and off, it also has 3 levels of intensity.

Step 1: Discovery

We began with this idea when we were wondering around asking people for their ideal lamps, most of them described one that when touch it turns on as a reading light. They also requested for a lamp that the intensity of the light could adjust.

These are the questions we asked:

Tell me about your favorite lamp... why?

What would be your ideal lamp? why?

What is something that you don't like about a lamp at home? why?

How often do you use a lamp in your daily bases and for what do you use it for?

Step 2: Ideation

Using the notes we took about what people liked in a lamp and what they did not like in a lamp we made quick sketches of of designs and ideas. We picked about 5 of our favorite sketches and went to the same people again for feedback.

Step 3: Experimentation

With the feedback, we made our final sketch and made some modifications. We began to search for videos in youtube and and found this video https://youtu.be/zhRDFYaezsw which gave us the materials and tools we were going to need, it also gave us the step to adding the touch dimmer. We also used a paper with instructions.

Step 4: Prototyping

We ordered the touch dimmer in amazon and the rest of the tools we brought them form home. With the first lamp we failed, then we used another lamp and we used it for practice.

Step 5: Testing

This is our final product. A lamp that turns on and off whenever the metal is touched and there are three levels of intensity.
