Toilet Hand Spray Gun Press Mechanism Repair

The trigger mechanism in a toilet hand spray takes most of the effort in your toilet, to control the unwanted water leakage. There is a spring-loaded piston and rod arrangement with washers, that tightly closes the spray opening. Yesterday, I found the neck of our hand spray gun's trigger was broken mysteriously as to how it happened, possibly due to aging but one year is no much old.

The neck was broken, rest of the stuff was working as new. I felt replacing the complete unit is a bad idea in this case, so started thinking on ways to fix it back. Mere gluing it with cyanoacrylate (super glue) would not last long. I was thinking of re-enforcing it with some metal strip and hot glue, but it would make it ugly and I did not want it. I

observed the thickness of the plastic (ABS plastic) which was reasonably thick, not less than 3 mm, just a guess. so, I thought of going with some hard metal strong but thin rods to reinforce the broken pieces to put them back with super

glue.

Next Morning, I thought for a suitable metal preferably stainless steel that would not get rusted. Having my requirements set. I started thinking on the items available

paper clip wire, paper pins, all are good but not hard, So I ended up finalizing with swing needled. They are made of hard iron/steel. Here I have explained how I fixed it.

Supplies

Thin needle

small drill and bit

Super Glue (Cyanoacrylate)

Baking Powder (crack filler material)

Step1 : Take out the trigger by removing the from cap, the face from water is sprayed out, it is a threaded attachment, rotating it counterclockwise will loosen it and will eventually come out.

take out the pieces to inspect the thickness, drill some holes in both the pieces, make sure they are properly aligned and are at the same position in both pieces.

Once the hole is drilled, try to fix appropriate sized needle with the help of a pare of plier.

cut small pieces of the needle of size enough to fit in the holes, so that both the faces of the broken plastic pieces can come in close contact, having the metal parts as support inside the holes.

push the pieces together, leaving little gap in between, for the super glue to be squished in, you can fill the gap with baking soda to form a paste before applying the super glue. That will fill the uneven surface of the broken faces.

and finally attach them tight and let the glue cure.
