Tissue Paper Wisteria With Bonus Jumbo Daisies

I know there are endless tissue paper flower tutorials, but there still aren’t enough quick and easy wisteria tutorials. Wisteria is notorious for creating a dramatically whimsical effect, but only if there are a lot of them. So you can’t just create a few and quit. Which means the process needs to be easy and streamlined. I have another wisteria tutorial using felt, but this one is even faster!

• Tissue paper*
• Yarn or twine
• Embroidery needle
• Scissors

*I'm using this 15 x 20 inch tissue paper from Amazon.

Fold a sheet of tissue paper in half horizontally and cut along the fold. Then with the sheets still stacked on top of each other, accordion fold vertically to the end to be approximately 2 inches wide.

Cut the folded tissue in half. Then cut one of the halves in half. Then cut one of those halves in half. You should now have 3 sizes.

Separate the sheets and stack by size.

Repeat this step until you have a few hefty piles of folded tissue paper.

If you have sharp scissors you can definitely stack multiple sheets of tissue for this step to get even more rectangles quicker. Just make sure the folds are sharp.

Unravel a substantial amount of yarn.

Thread your yarn through your needle. Grab 3 small rectangles of tissue paper and pierce it with your needle, attaching it to the yarn. Do this again with 3 medium rectangles and 3 large rectangles. Slide this group of tissue rectangles down your yarn.

Repeat this step until you are out of tissue.

Change up the number of rectangles you put in each group. For example, maybe do 4 small, 3 medium, and 2 large. This ensures not all of your flowers are the same length.

Your groups of tissue should be approximately 3.5 feet a part. This may need to be longer if you plan on making extra long flowers with more than 12 rectangles. To make this easier, find something near you that’s about the length you need. I used a couch cushion to space mine.

You can also choose to string and cut each group individually if you don’t mind re-threading your needle each time.

Cut the string just above the small tissue side and tie a knot.

Expand each rectangle while gliding the stacks upward. It doesn’t have to be perfect! Now crush each rectangle width wise. Keep the excess string for hanging.

Continue this step until all your flowers are complete.

If you need more flowers just start back at step one.

You can also mix colors to create an ombre effect. You’ll just need to cut them a little differently.

• Dark color (large) - cut in half
• Medium color (medium) - cut in quarters
• Light color (small) - cut in eighths

Use the excess string to tie flowers together in groups or just hang individually. Trim any excess string that isn’t being used.

There are also an endless number of tutorials for jumbo flowers, but again, I found this method to be the quickest and easiest.

Materials

• Tissue paper
• Scissors
• Stapler
• Glue gun

Trace and cut an approximately 7 inch wide circle on card stock or poster board.

For the large outside petals (red) stack 4 sheets of tissue paper on top of each other and fold in half horizontally. Now fold in half vertically. Cut the shape shown on the photo along the open edge. You should have 8 heart shaped petals.

Bunch the bottom of each petal together and staple.

For the small inside petals (pink) stack 3 sheets tissue paper on top of each and fold in half horizontally. The fold in half horizontally again. Now fold in half vertically. Cut the shape shown on the photo along the open edge. You should have 12 heart shaped petals.

Bunch the bottom of each petal together and staple. Now overlap 2 stapled petals and staple those together.

Hot glue the large outside petals to the card stock about two inches from the edge. Glue them opposite of each other so they're close to evenly spaced.

Hot glue the smaller petals so they’re overlapping the large petals. Glue two sets opposite of each other. Then two sets in between each of those.

Take one piece of tissue paper and cut in half. Crumple it into a ball then open it back up. Gather the corners towards the middle of the square and press flat. Hot glue to the center of your flower. Then hot glue some of pieces that stick up, but not all of them so that there’s some texture.

Your jumbo flower is complete!
