Tissue Paper Flower Decorations

Flower Craft 1.jpeg

My 16-year-old daughter and I love throwing parties, birthday parties, summer pool parties, baby showers, etc. I am a mom and a student so the idea of saving money on decorations is very appealing to me. I am going to show you how you can quickly and easily make some tissue paper flower decorations on a budget.

Supplies

Tissue paper (any colors you want)

Scissors

Twist Ties

Ruler

Tape

Take out 8 pieces of tissue paper and lay them one on top of another. I like to alternate colors.

Fold the tissue paper stack in half, long ways, and then in half, long ways, again. Now open it back up and you'll have 3 creases and 4 equal panels.

Cut 1 of the 4 panels off (¼ of the paper stack) and set it aside. I cut along the crease to help me cut in a straight line.

Turn the remaining tissue paper stack toward yourself so that the shorter side is facing you.

Fold about 1 ½ inches, of the tissue paper stack, away from your body and crease with your hand.

Next, flip the tissue paper stack completely over keeping that 1 ½ inch part folded.

Now fold that 1 ½ inch part again, away from your body. If you have ever folded a fan, it is the same concept.

You will continue to flip and fold until all you have left, of the tissue paper stack, is a 1 ½ inch strip of folded paper.

Put a twist tie in the middle of the strip and twist it, perpendicular, to the strip. If the twist tie is too short, then you can twist 2 ties together, end to end, to make it longer.

If you hold the twist tie, you’ll see what looks like 2 fans on either side.

Open up the creases on one side, and carefully pull up each layer of the tissue paper toward the center of the strip where the twist tie is.

After pulling up one layer at a time on the first side, it should now look like ½ of a flower.

Repeat step 11 to the other side.

You should now have a flower-looking, colorful, decoration to hang at any party.

If you want to tape the sides of the flower together, then you can flip the flower over and tape the bottom layer together.

You can make the flowers different sizes by cutting off more or less of the tissue paper stack (see step 3). Use the end of the twist tie to hang your flowers and happy decorating!
