Tipper Luton Dropside Tail Light Hinged Cage Box Guards

Symptoms of Fault
Broken tail light, poor visibility when reversing
The Fault
Poor visibility when reversing makes it easy to smash the tail lights
The Ford Transit Tippers, Dropsides and Lutons have poor visibility when reversing, owing to a lack of sensors and cameras from factory combined with blind spots. The tail lights are the rear-most part of the vehicle and have no protection and thus easy to smash when maneuvering.
The Solution
Protect your tail lights with the X8R tail light guards
Introducing the new X8R tail light guards, these instructions are for our hinged cage surrounds. These covers are easy to install, look the part, are the best and highest quality on the market and are easy to open & close in order to replace to change bulbs.
Our covers are made from 4mm zinc-plated steel which is rust-resistant, hard-wearing and robust. Other options on the market are made from thinner material and more likely to bend under impact and therefore damage the tail lights underneath. Owing to the thicker material our lights have larger gaps to shine more light at night and improve visibility to other road users.
To install simply remove the tail lights, fit the back of the cover behind the tail light and fit the front plate and hinge over the top, bolt it shut with the nuts and bolts provided.
Vehicles Affected
Ford Transit Tipper/Dropside/Luton MK6 2006-2014
Ford Transit Tipper/Dropside/Luton MK7 2014-2020
Ford Transit Tipper/Dropside/Luton MK8 2020 onwards
These covers may fit other manufacturers and models of tippers, dropsides and lutons. Please see the attached measurement diagram and compare against your tail lights to see if our kit will be compatible.
You Will Receive
1 x Pair of tail light guards (hinged cage covers) made from 4mm zinc plated steel with fitting hardware
Supplies
You will need:
- 13mm spanner
- 13mm socket and rachet set
- Longnose pliers
Remove the Tail Lights

Unclip the electrical connectors on the back of the tail lights, be careful especially if your vehicle is a few years old as the plastic may be brittle.
There are two 13mm nuts with built-in washers, use a 13m socket and rachet set to remove them. Again, if your vehicle is a few years on these might be tricky to undo, spray generously with WD40 for a couple hours or even overnight.
Pull the tail light out from the tail light bar.
Troubleshooting - They are on a double-sided thread which may spin in the other direction whilst loosening. This isn't a problem as it means the tail lights will come off from the other side and leave the thread and nuts in the back of the tail light bar. If this happens hold the back of the thread (between the tail light and the tail light bar) with a pair of longnose pliers, whilst turning the nut with the 13mm socket and rachet.
Fit the Back of the Cage

Press the tail light into the cage, the two threads poking out of the tail light will go through the cut-outs on the back of the cake.
Press the combined units into the tail light bar and thread the electrical connector and wiring through the hole on the tail light bar.
Tighten the 2 x 13mm nuts back onto the threads using the 13mm socket and rachet.
Connect the electrical connector.
Fit the Front of the Cage

Slide a washer over the long bolt.
Fit the front of the cage over the hinge then slide the long bolt and washer through the hinge.
Hand tighten the nyloc nut on the bottom then use a 13mm spanner and a 13mm socket and rachet set to tighten it up. Do not tighten completely as this will make the cage stiff when opening/closing.
Fit the Two Side Bolts

Take the two shorter bolts and press a washer over both.
Press the bolts through the two side cut-outs and press on another washer on the other side. Place nyloc nuts on the back and tighten with a 13mm socket and rachet.
