Portable Fume Extractor with Flash light

  • 5V - USB compatible
  • High brightness flash light
  • High Speed Fan
  • Compact & Portable
  • Light in weight
  • Multipurpose - Soldering, Air blower, Cooler, Lamp etc.,

A Tiny Portable Fume Extractor with Flash LED controlled by 2 latch push switches: This project involves designing a compact and efficient device that can extract fumes and smoke from a designated area. The device is equipped with a flash LED to provide illumination during soldering, rework or inspection. The compact size and simple operation make it ideal for use in small workshops, labs, or hobby areas.

  • Cut the diffuser plastic sheet with scissors for 40 x 14 x 1 mm

DC FAN

DC FAN.JPG
  • A 12V High speed DC fan is used in the design, commonly these FANs are used in SMPS and server applications
  • 40x28 mm - 2 wire DC fan
  • DC FAN part number : OD4028-12HB
  • Similar DC fan with various CFM, RPM and dimensions are compatible with the design (For better results select power less than 6W)

Electronics

Two different custom designed PCBs are used in the setup:

  1. Power PCB (USB Input, Control and LED drive)
  2. LED PCB (White LEDs in parallel)

Notes:

  1. Verify the orientation of the push button relative to the image reference before assembly, as it is DPDT.
  2. The MEL7135 delivers a constant current of 350mA. The PCB allows for the installation of 2 ICs, depending on the desired brightness and number of LEDs. The number of ICs can be adjusted accordingly.

LED PCB

  • White SMD LED - 4 Qty
  • Only 4 LEDs have been soldered and one driver IC has been installed.

White LED Part Number: JB5630AWT-P-H40GA0000-NZ000001

PCB Test Notes

After PCB assembly,

  1. Before connection of 5V USB, check for short circuit at FAN output and LED output with push button powered ON
  2. Connect 5V USB and measure voltage at FAN output and LED output
  3. FAN output --> 12V
  4. LED output --> 5V
  5. Trim the wires of Fan and LED PCB according to length
  6. Solder the FAN and LED Wires and Power ON for test runs

Warning: Handle with care when the FAN is in operation, it spins at speeds above 8000RPM

Plug the USB cable and power ON to get the fumes out of your way

Incense stick smoke test for demonstration !!

Device is a bit loud due to the high RPM FAN, but works like a charm

Thank you !!
