My name is Mia and I am a sophomore in high school doing this project for my STEM class. The project I made was a tiny home. The purpose of this home is that it is designed as an affordable and comfortable home. It is operated through solar energy and outdoor living space. It is going to be an affordable house because it is designed with minimal piping and plumbing and I have incorporated a rain catcher.

Supplies

  • Tinkercad
  • Computer
  • 3d Printer (Optional)

The Shipping Container

First, I designed the shipping container in inventor. I started out by making a 20X9.6 inch rectangle, then I added a line in the middle of the rectangle. I used to offset tool to multiply the line until you have a line separating a 1/2 inch. The next step is to create the corner piece. I creat a 3d rectangle that is 10.67 mm in Tinkercad and then took the spehere shape and made an oval. I aligned the oval and rectangle together, then made a whole with the oval. I did that on three out of the four sides, one must be on the end. The next step is to create the corner itself. I took a new cube and made it smaller than the first rectangle and I took off the end that didn't have an oval on it and then the long side that didn't have an oval and then cut those two sides away. Then align the two pieces in the two top corners and group together. If you cannot align the two pieces you can use the align tool.

Bed - I designed the Murray bed. The Murray bed is a great tool for a small space because it can collapse up and down. The first step is to measure the space you want the bed to be in and then create a rectangle that fills that space and then you will create a second rectangle that is 1/2 an inch bigger than your bed size is total. Then you will create a bed that will consist of two rectangles and a semi-circle. The bed will be 1/2 an inch smaller than the second rectangle you just created. Then you can align the two objects together and group them together.

Chair - In order to make a simple chair you will need two different-sized cubes depending on the space you have left. The smaller cube of the two will be a hole and you will align the two cubes to the middle and group them together. Make sure to not have the hole going through the back of the chair.

Kitchen Space - I started with a rectangle, then the hole left 1/2 inch on each side. I created shelves that would be easy to slide in and out to create multiple ways to store items. The sink is made out of two rectangles and the faucet is two small rectangles. The drain system is optional for anyone. I created a piping system that would allow food to drain into a bucket that can be emptied each week or daily.

Shelf - I applied the same steps to the kitchen space and instead of having a three-section shelving compartment I only have 1. Then I took two rectangles (one hole, one solid) and put them lined in the middle and then 7/8 of an inch from the bottom. The handle is made out of a sphere that is lined approximately in the middle.

Outdoor Table and Chairs - The table that has seatings for 8 total people. This is the main seating area because my home is going to show an outdoor living environment and will help save light energy inside the home. The tabletop is a cube expanded to be 1.5 inches long and 1/4 inch thick. The legs can be 2 inches long or shorter depending on the height you would like them to be. Then the chairs are made by the same steps on the chair in the previous step.
