This is a 6 degrees of freedom robotic manipulator with a 7th degree for rotating the tool on the end effector. Each section of the arm can be removed separately to allow the user to easily install longer arms or add more joints. The arm is mounted in an ABS plastic box which contains the Programmable Logic Circuit and the arm’s mounting system. The arm’s mounting system allows the mount to be affix in a larger variety of places as the threaded bar can pull the arm’s base in closer, allowing for neater packing. The tool grip on the end effector of the arm is knurled to allow a user to install a tool without needing the motor. The arm has stereoscopic cameras for discovering where objects are and how to orientate the arm to interact correctly. The user interacts with the arm through a tablet interface, selecting tasks and which tools are in the tool tower. The arm will also need to use a mimic function in order to fine tune the processes with regard to different kitchen layouts. This arm is used together with a “CNC” style tool changing tower that stores 6 different tools for the arm to use. The tool tower contains a calibration point at the top, this gives the arm a point reference that can be used for calculating distances for changing tools. The tool holders have a gear based locking mechanism that only releases when the arm has fully connected to the tool. This locking mechanism stops a tool from being loosely loaded onto the arm where severe injury could occur. The renders contain threads and knurling that have been modelled on the parts but due to file sizes and processing time, these were removed, and the threads were replaced with textures. All of the models for the arm, tool tower, and kitchen were created for the competition. The robot is being uploaded as a .stp file and as such, lacks any of the constraints.
