Tinkercad Designed Hanging Planter

This is my second Instructable for my Hanging Planter but using Tinkercad.

Here's the link to the the first Instructable where I made this using Fusion 360: https://www.instructables.com/id/3D-Printed-Hanging-Planter/

This Instructable is a step by step using Tinkercad.

If you read the previous Instructable, you'll know this was a planter made out of necessity due to the apartment my wife and live in. Nothing grows unless it's in the window and then it most likely that the cats will eat the plant. We needed a way to get the plants off the wind sill.

We wanted a design that was more organic than most planters and thus this teardrop shape was born.

Basic Shapes in Tinkercad

I started with a sphere and enlarged it to the appropriate size.

I then added a paraboloid shape to the sphere and grouped the objects together.

Copy and Paste

I then copy and pasted the grouped object.

I then shrunk the second object buy about 2-3 mm, then changed it from a solid to a hole.

You then have to align the objects on all three axis and group the objects again.

Cutting the Hole in the Planter

Next step is to add a half sphere, flip it over and adjust the size and shape until you like the positioning the hole.

Then change the half sphere from solid to hole to create the opening in the planter.

Adding the Drain

Then add a cylinder and change the diameter to the desired size for the drain.

Move it into position and change it from solid to hole.

Group everything together again and you have something that is starting to look like a planter.

Points to Hang From

Last few steps are adding something to the planter to allow it to hang.

I used a torus. Adjust it to an appropriate size and move it into place.

Copy and paste it. Because we are using three hanging points on this planter we need to divide 360 by 3 which equals 120. Rotate the second torus 120 degrees from the first one and move it to an appropriate place on the planter. Copy and Paste again and rotate again 120 in the other direction. Move it into place and you have the lower planter.

To make the upper planter, highlight the 3 torus shapes and Copy and Paste on last time. Move them as a group to the bottom of the planter and group together on last time. You're now done and ready to print.

Getting Ready to Print.

Like the last Instructable, send the file to Meshmixer and slice it in half. Export to your favourite slicer program and set lay them out appropriately with supports on the inside.

Print, clean up and assemble planters.

Plant, grow and enjoy!
