TinkerCAD Snowglobe

FINISHED.png

Learn how to make a snowglobe in TinkerCAD. All you will need is a device to load up and use TinkerCAD.

Naming the Project

STEP1.png

Click the name box in the upper left hand corner of the workspace and change the name to "Snowglobe."

Creating the Base Cone

STEP2.png

Drag out a cone. Make the height 50, the base radius 75, the top radius 60, and give it 30 sides.

Creating Letters for the Base

STEP3.png

Drag out a TEXT. Type in your initials or any text you want to include. Choose a font. Rotate the letters 90 degrees so that it sticks straight up. Drag the letters out to a width of about 30 and rotate it -10 degrees so that it leans back.

Placing the Letters on the Base

STEP4.png

Align your letters with the middle knob on the front of the base, then move it so that only a little bit of the letters stick out of the front, making them legible.

Group and Color the Base

STEP5.png

Now that the letters and base are together, group the pair and choose whichever colors you would like. I am using green and gold. Move this out of the way to give yourself room for the snowman.

Creating the Body of the Snowman

STEP6.png

Make three white spheres, the first with a diameter of 40, the second 30, and the last 25.

Making the Snowman's Facial Features

STEP7.png

Drag out a cone with a base radius of 10, top radius of 0, height of 20, and give it 24 sides. Then, create 2 spheres with a diameter of 5. Create one last sphere and drag this one out so that it has a length of 3, a width of 2, and a height of 2. Duplicate the 3x2x2 object 5 times.

Creating Pieces for the Snowman's Arms

STEP8.png

First, make a cylinder with a diameter of 2 and a height of 20. Then, create a cylinder with a base diameter of 2 and a height of 10. Duplicate the 2x10 cylinder 3 times. Make sure all pieces are laying flat on the work plane. Angle one duplicate at 45 degrees and the other at -45 degrees. Keep the other in its current orientation.

Putting Together the Snowman's Arms

STEP9.png

Align the shorter cylinders with the end of the longer one. It should make a "Y" shape with a line extruding from the acute angle formed in the middle. Group the cylinders and duplicate the group.

Make the Snowman's Buttons

STEP10.png

Create a sphere with a diameter of 5. Drag it out so that the length stays at 5, but the width and height are both 3.

Putting the Nose on the Snowman

STEP11.png

Align the earlier cone that you made with the middle front and height of the 25 diameter sphere. Move the nose so that there is not a gap between it and the sphere. Group the pair and fix colors.

Putting Eyes on the Snowman

STEP12.png

Group the 2 spheres with a diameter of 5. Align them with the middle front of the sphere with the nose attached. Drag them up and remove the space between it and the sphere as you did with the nose.

Smile on the Snowman

STEP13.png

Take the 5 3x2x2 objects from a few steps ago and put them into a smile shape. Group them and align them with the middle front of the snowman's face. Drag them below the nose and so that they are partially obstructed by the sphere (head). Group the smile, the nose, the eyes, and the head and fix the colors.

Putting the Buttons on the Snowman

STEP14.png

Take your 3 5x3x3 objects and space them apart in a single line. Rotate this 90 degrees and align it with the middle front and height of the sphere that has a diameter of 30. Drag it so that there is no gap between them and the sphere to create the implanted appearance. Group the group of spheres and the larger sphere. Fix the colors.

Arms on the Snowman

STEP15.png

Take the arms you made before. Mirror one of them to face the opposite direction. Align them with the middle sides and height of the 30 diameter sphere. Insert them so that most of the arms sticks out of the side. Group this sphere and everything attached to it.

Snowman Complete!

STEP16.png

Stack the head, torso, and bottom of the snowman. Align it on the bottom, and make sure there are no gaps in between parts. Group everything and fix the colors. Move this item out of the way to give you room to work on the next.

Starting the House

STEP17.png

Drag out a box with a length of 55, a width of 40, and a height of 45.

Roof of the House

STEP18.png

Drag out a roof with a length of 60, a height of 20, and a width of 45. Align it with the box you made in the last step, then move it up so that it sets just on top of the box without any gaps in between the two. Group the pair.

House Door

STEP19.png

Create a box. Make the width 4, the length 15, and the height 20. Align this box with the middle front and front side of the house. It should stick out a tiny bit to look like a door is on the front of the house.

Making Windows

STEP20.png

Create a box with a width of 4, a height of 12, and width of 12.

Attaching the Windows to the House

STEP21.png

Duplicate your window. Move it to one side about 32 units. Group the windows. Move the group up above the door level and align it with the front and middle front of the house group. They windows should be attached to the front of the house above the door. Group all items on the house.

Putting the Snowman and the House on the Base

STEP22.png

Bring your base and snowman back into the scene with your house. Move the house and snowman up and onto the top of the base. You may have to adjust the size of the two, but make sure to hold shift and adjust so that all dimensions stay to scale. Position and rotate them however you want. Then, group everything.

The "globe"

STEP23.png

Drag out a sphere with a diameter of 160. Align it to the exact middle of the base with the items. Then, move it up so that it fits the top radius of the base and goes upward to enclose the snowman and house.

Make Snowflakes

STEP24.png

Drag out a sphere with a diameter of 7. Duplicate this 10 times. Once you place them in the globe, you may want to add more.

Move Your Snowflakes Into the Globe in Random Places

STEP25.png

Move each of your small white spheres into the globe in places that give the look of snowfall. Congrats! Now you've made a snowglobe in TinkerCAD! This is the last step of the tutorial!
