~Tin Foil Robot Art~

TinFoilArtInstructables.JPG

Hello everyone,

Here are some instructions about how to replicate my tin foil robot art. As you may know, tin foil is quite tedious to work with and cameras cannot replicate what you actually see due to odd reflections of light. So the final product doesn't look too good but it looks better in person :)

Supplies

Tin Foil (obviously)

Paper

Picture Frame

Scissors

Pencil/pen

Hot Glue Gun + Hot Glue

Screen or iPad to sketch off of (not needed if you use a printer)

Cotton Buds

Find the Photo or Design You Want

Firstly, you have to choose an image or design you want. I went with the Instructables Robot. You cant either print out the design or choose the difficult option. Skip to next step if you printed it.

You will need a pencil/pen and a piece of paper to match the size of your picture frame. Hold the paper over the light to see through it and be able to sketch the main outlines.

Warm Up Your Hot Glue Gun

Once you have your design printed or sketched, you need to warm up your hot glue gun. Using the hot glue, carefully trace the lines previously marked. Try make it as even as possible for a better result at the end

Put the Tin Foil Over the Hot Glued Paper

Once you have finished lining the marks with hot glue, place the paper into the picture frame with the tinfoil on top of it. Try to make the tin foil as flat as possible as this will make the result more prominent.

Then get your cotton buds and get ready to get to the tedious part.

Get your cotton bud and stroke it backwards and forwards over your tin foil. Make sure not to press too hard as the tin foil will rip. Also, have the original image next to it so you can see where the hot glue is easier (instead of guessing). Keep stroking the creases out of the tin foil until it meets your standard.

Enjoy your cheap but interesting artwork :)
