Lay Out Materials

After washing your hands, lay out your materials to create the cake batter. This includes the Devil's Food cake mix, the butter, the vegetable oil, the milk, a mixing bowl, measuring cups, and a whisk. Then, preheat the oven to 325.

Make the Cake Batter

Open the Devil's Food cake mix box, and pour it into your mixing bowl. Multiple bowls to separate the wet ingredients and the dry ingredients are not necessary. Then, pour 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of vegetable oil into the bowl with the cake mix. Afterwards, crack 3 eggs into the mixture, being careful not to let any eggshells drop into the batter. Finally, vigorously mix the combination with a whisk for 2 minutes.

Grease the Pan and Pour It In!

Grease the pan with a reasonable amount of butter by spreading the stick on the pan, making sure to cover all surfaces. Then, pour your mixture into the pan.

Put the Cake Into the Oven

Put the cake into the oven, leaving it in for 25 minutes before checking.

Crush Oreos and Separate Frosting

While the cake is in the oven, take out your Oreo cookies and separate the cream and cookies into different bowls. (P.S. This is the messy part!). Then, place your Oreo cookies into a big plastic bag and crush them with a meat crusher. Finally, transfer the crushed cookies back into their designated bowl. If you're wondering what to do with the cream, put it into the fridge and save it for later.

Make the Gravestones

Moving to a new step, take your chocolate melting wafers and put them into your chocolate melter. If you don't have a chocolate melter, a microwave will work just fine. Get out a few Milano cookies as well, making sure to split them in half. Once your chocolate is melted, move it into a small piping bag or the corner of a plastic bag. Then write "RIP" or any other gravestone phrases onto the Milano cookies. If you're like us and can't be trusted with a piping bag, use a toothpick for more accurate decoration. Set them on a plate for later, as these headstones will be used to top the trifle

Let Cake Cool and Cut Strawberries

IMG_2034.jpg

Once the cake is done, let it cool for 10 minutes (or however much time is needed). While the cake is cooling, take your strawberries, rinse them, and start cutting them by taking the top off and slicing them into quarters. Then, set those aside, as those are a layer in the trifle. A regular one-pound container of strawberries should be sufficient.

Slice the Cake

Once the cake is cooled, take it out of the pan and onto a baking rack. Then slice the cake in half to create layers.

The Trifle

To create the trifle, first put the first half of the cake on the bottom of the container. If your cake is bigger than the container, cut off the excess. Then, add a layer of Cool Whip on top of the cake layer. Finally, add half of your strawberries on top. Repeat this process in the order of cake, Cool Whip, and strawberries on top to complete the trifle. Once two layers have been created, add a very thin layer of Cool Whip to top it off.

Decorating the Graveyard

Once the trifle is done, sprinkle your Oreo cookie crumbs on top to represent dirt. After, add the gravestones and pumpkins on top of the crumbs, making sure to leave room in front of one gravestone, preferably in the middle.

The Skeleton

Remember the Oreo cream we left in the fridge? Take the cream out of the fridge and start molding it into parts of a skeleton. It does not have to be perfect, just resemble bones! Lay the bones on top of the crumbs in the spot left in the middle or in front of a gravestone.

Enjoy!
