An easy, delicious way to use up those beautiful apples that the Fall season brings, I bring you my three-ingredient apple cobbler recipe.

This Fall season potluck favorite is best served warm in my opinion, but as any mother of three children will tell you - if it's still delicious cold, I call that a win-win! The cobbler itself seems "fancy" to me, and I enjoy eating a spot or two of dry cake mix that browns up while cooking over the top of the apples.

I was able to make this dessert in just over an hour, and that was with taking photos.

On with the recipe ~

Using the cooking instructions on the back of the cake box mix, preheat the oven according to the package directions. I am using a 13x9 sized glass pan and the instructions state to preheat the oven to 350-degrees.

Ingredients

  • seven (7) medium apples (I used the Fuji type)
  • one package white or yellow cake mix (I used white for this Instructable)
  • one stick of unsalted butter
  • You can optionally place cinnamon over the top. I am allergic to cinnamon so I don't use it.

Prepare the Apples

Wash the outside of the apples. I do this with running water and I would have taken a photo but my sink was full of dirty dishes at the time.

With a potato peeler (or whatever else you have) peel the skin off the apples. (I don't have a fancy apple peeler.)

Using an apple corer/slicer, core and slice the apples. You can optionally place the apple pieces in a gallon-sized plastic bag with 1/2-cup of lemon-lime soda to prevent browning. It took me about half-an-hour to peel, slice & core all seven (7) apples, so I chose to use this method to keep the apples pretty in the photos.

Combine Ingredients and Bake

Place the cut apples in a greased 13x9 pan.

As evenly as possible, sprinkle the dry cake mix over the top of the apples.

Melt the stick of butter. I do this by melting the butter in a microwavable container for 30-seconds in the microwave.

Slowly pour the melted butter over the top of the cake mix.

Bake the cobbler for at least 35-minutes, until the edges are browned slightly.

I let the cobbler cool for at least ten minutes before serving.

Other Notes

The yellow cake mix will give a more cobbler look to your dish. My dish is very white, due to the white cake mix used.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the fanciness without all the work!
