The Sustainable Home Model

Hi, my name is Brayden and I built the sustainable home model. I built this for my science project that we did to show a model of what a sustainable house would look like in the biome that you got. The biome that I got was ponds and lakes. I chose to put a little pond in my design as you can see in the first picture. Another reason I built this model is to show what you would need in a sustainable home like water, heat windows for light a food source like a garden.

Supplies

I made my model all out of recycled cardboard, some tape to hold things together, and some tinfoil for some solar panels. I used scissors to cut the cardboard out to the right shapes. I also used black, red, white, green, blue paints to make the house look better

Step by Step on How to Build the Model

First, you want to get a medium cardboard box and a small cardboard box. Put the cardboard box together and tape them up like the picture above. Cut out a door in what you want to be in the front. Next, You want to cut out 8 windows on each side of the big part. ( you can also add a back door if you want) After you do that, you want to go to the smaller part of your house this is going to be the garage. You want to cut a rectangle hole that looks like a garage on the same side that the front door is on. Next, you want to put one window on the remaining sides of your garage. On the back a large window and the side a small one. After your windows and door are cut out you are going to want to paint the house! You should paint the top black, the garage door white and the rest of the house red or whatever colors you want. once you paint it's time to make the solar panels. You are going to need little cardboard rectangles and tin foil. You need to put the tinfoil over the rectangles and put them on the top of the house with tape. Once that's on we need to make the pond. You want to get a big piece of cardboard to cut a circle out of. After you cut the circle out you want to paint it blue to make it look like a pond. Them we are going to make the yard and driveway. Get a large cardboard square and put it near the house. Paint a driveway with black leading to the garage door and the rest of the large square green for the grass. This part is optional, we are going to make a garden. You want to get a cardboard rectangle about the same size as the solar panel. You will need to cut out a 5 tiny rectangle for plants and you are going to tape the tiny rectangles to the big one. Paint the little rectangles green.

My project is used to represent what a sustainable home would look like based on the lake/pond biome. This is also used for a science project that we have to do. My house was made out of mostly recycled material like cardboard. My house has a working garage door that can go up and down with a strip of tape. I made a lego car to show that the size is not to scale cause the car can fit in the garage.
