The Simple Way to Draw a Face

Beginning your journey into art isn't easy. I've been drawing for many years now, and illustrating has become one of my favorite hobbies! I would love to share that joy with others, so today I will being showing you how to draw a very simple face.
Supplies
- Pencil
- Paper
or
- Device
- Digital Drawing Application
(Ex: Procreate, Clipstudio, MSpaint)
Get Your Canvas

Gather your materials and lay them out in front of you. Today, I will demonstrate using digital art instead of traditionally. If you are using traditional materials, do not worry! It won't affect out steps.
Draw a Circle

To get an idea of our head shape, draw a circle. This circle doesn't have to be perfect by any means!
Split Your Circle Into Fourths

First, you should split your circle horizontally. Ideally, our horizontal line should stay inside of the shape. Then, we should add a vertical line through the center, going all the way down and even past the borders of our circle. It should only go down about half the circle's length.
These are our first guidelines, showing us where we will need to place things later.
Add a Triangle (and Round It Out!)

Start your triangle at the ends of your horizontal line. The sides of your triangle should meet at the bottom of your vertical line, forming a pointy chin.
Then, try to round out these lines and making the face softer. If you are going for a more angular face, you simply need to round the bottom edge of the triangle.
Adding Eyes and Eyebrows

Add two ovals below your horizontal line to form the eyes.
Many art tutorials say that you should place your eyes on your horizontal line, but what happens is that your eyes end up being much too far upwards. It's best to instead form the eyebrows of the person you're drawing on this line.
Erase Your Guidelines

Erase your horizontal, vertical and triangular lines. Be sure to leave the rounded ones!
Draw a Nose and Mouth

The shape of your nose a mouth can vary.
Today, draw a straight line down the center of the face, starting between the eyes and going down just a bit.
Underneath your nose, add one line for the mouth. This could be a smile, a frown or just a flat face.
Add Your Final Touches

Now you've got it!
Now that you have the basics of your face, feel free to add any extra details. In the picture above, I've added ears, the eye color, and some facial wrinkles. You can also add things like beauty marks, freckles or facial hair!
