The Simple Bar Stool
As it usually goes in life, once you move into a new kitchen a need for a bar stool arises. So wife wanted to buy one but a cheapskate that I am, I told her that I'd build one that was cheaper and more sturdy. She agreed to go along but had a condition that if needed to be easy to dismantle and put away.
Tools and Materials
One only needs some basic carpentry tools for this:
- saw
- hammer
- screwdriver
- wood chisel
- sanding paper
As I was a bit lazy, I used a power drill to drill a hole in the top and for screwing in some screws.
Wooden parts used used:
- 40x30x2cm board
- 4x 70x5x5 for legs
- 3x 36x4.5x2
- 2x 26x4.5x2
- 2x 27x4.5x2
- 2x 16x4.5x2
Screws:
- 24 4.0x30 wood screws
- 4 5.0x50 wood screws
The board was 50x30 so I had to cut it to size. Next I made a hole in it so it would be easy to carry it around.
The hole you can chisel out. What I did is drilled about 50 small holes next to each other with the power drill and finished the cutting piece out with wood chisel. Sadly didn't snap a picture of the process. Also sanded out the hole.
Next I attached the 4 planks to the seat, leaving 2cm from the edge and enough room to fit the legs.
Put the legs together. Make sure that they're lined up properly else you will have one wiggly stool. The piece of wood closer to the middle is leg rest.
Then did 2 cm deep cuts on the sides of the legs and chiseled out excess material. Those are to make your stool extra sturdy when you fix in the horizontal supports.
Now attach the "seat" part onto the legs with the 4 longer screws and add felt pads.
A bit of sanding and all done. Feel free to paint it in your favorite color.
